The Ministry of the Interior released its analysis of household registration statistics for June 2023 on the 10th. Taiwan's total population as of June 2023 was 23,243,565, a decrease of 103,176 compared to the same month last year, marking 30 consecutive months of population decline. Additionally, the number of newborns in the first half of 2023 was 46,344, down 9,031 from the same period last year.

By county and city, the highest population growth rates compared to the same month last year were recorded in Taoyuan City at 0.29%, followed by Lienchiang County at 0.28%, and Hsinchu County at 0.24%. The largest population declines were seen in Kinmen County at 1.49%, Chiayi County at 1.20%, and Taipei City at 1.14%.
Regarding births, the number of births in June 2023 was 7,324, equating to one baby born approximately every 5.9 minutes. The annualized crude birth rate was 3.83‰, a decrease of 1,644 from the same month last year but an increase of 492 from the previous month. By county and city, the highest crude birth rates were recorded in Hsinchu City at 5.05‰, followed by Yunlin County at 4.86‰, and Taoyuan City at 4.66‰. The lowest rates were in Keelung City at 2.20‰, Chiayi County at 2.66‰, and Miaoli County at 3.24‰.
In terms of deaths, the number of deaths in June 2023 was 16,340, with one person dying approximately every 2.6 minutes. The annualized crude death rate was 8.55‰, a decrease of 214 from the same month last year but an increase of 1,182 from the previous month. By county and city, the highest crude death rates were in Chiayi County at 13.08‰, followed by Taitung County at 12.23‰, and Pingtung County at 11.72‰. The lowest rates were in Lienchiang County at 1.78‰, Taoyuan City at 6.70‰, and Hsinchu City at 6.73‰.
Regarding social increase, the number of people who moved into Taiwan in June 2023 was 65,101, a decrease of 6,733 from the same month last year and a decrease of 4,311 from the previous month. The number of people who moved out was 65,161, a decrease of 7,816 from the same month last year and a decrease of 5,828 from the previous month, resulting in a net migration of -60. By county and city, the highest net migration was in Taoyuan City with 711, followed by Taichung City with 557, and Hsinchu County with 111.
Regarding marital status, the number of marriages registered in June 2023 totaled 7,210, including 6,956 heterosexual marriages and 254 same-sex marriages, with an annualized crude marriage rate of 3.77‰. The number of divorces and marriage dissolutions was 4,269, including 4,188 heterosexual and 81 same-sex cases, with an annualized crude divorce rate of 2.23‰.
