At 5:30 a.m. today, the Central Weather Bureau officially issued marine and land typhoon warnings for this year's Typhoon Bavi, the eighth typhoon of the season. According to observations at 6 a.m., the center of Typhoon Bavi is currently located approximately 720 kilometers east of Eluanbi over the sea, moving northwest at a speed of 22 to 26 kilometers per hour. The central pressure is 940 hPa, with maximum sustained winds near the center reaching 45 meters per second. The radius of the 7-level wind zone extends 380 kilometers, while the 10-level wind zone reaches 180 kilometers.

How Will Typhoon Bavi's Path and Intensity Change?

Dr. Wu Derong, adjunct associate professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Central University, stated in the 'Leak the Heavenly Mechanism Classroom' column of the Meteorological Application Promotion Foundation that the latest European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) model simulations indicate Taiwan will be directly affected by Typhoon Bavi over the next two days. As time progresses, wind and rain across Taiwan will gradually intensify, becoming increasingly severe, especially in the evening.

The latest infrared satellite imagery shows that Typhoon Bavi is undergoing a slow weakening process due to slightly lower sea surface temperatures along its path. However, it still maintains the structure and scale of a large, moderate typhoon today.

When Will the Winds and Rains Be Most Severe?

Dr. Wu further pointed out that tomorrow will be the period of most intense impact, with destructive winds and torrential rains expected across the island. Northern and central Taiwan, as well as all mountainous areas, must be on high alert for damaging strong winds and torrential rainfall that could lead to disasters. Wind and rain over Taiwan's main island will gradually subside starting the evening of the 11th, while the Matsu region is expected to fully exit the typhoon's storm zone by daytime on the 12th.

Additionally, according to the Central Weather Bureau's potential path forecast, Typhoon Bavi will continue moving northwest today, pass near Ishigaki Island tomorrow, and enter the sea north of Taiwan. The typhoon's center is expected to make landfall along the border of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces in China around midnight on the 11th. The uncertainty range of the current path has significantly narrowed.

When Will Weather Stabilize After the Typhoon?

Regarding post-typhoon weather changes, Dr. Wu revealed that although Typhoon Bavi will have moved away from Taiwan between the 12th and 19th, the atmospheric structure will remain highly unstable due to residual moisture and subsequent southerly winds. During this period, localized short-duration rainfall will occasionally occur across Taiwan, particularly in the afternoons when strong convective systems may develop, bringing lightning, strong gusts, and sudden heavy downpours.

As the typhoon is about to bring direct impacts, the public is urged to closely monitor the latest warnings from the Central Weather Bureau and complete all typhoon preparedness measures before winds and rains intensify, without any complacency.
