With the release of June 2026's new car sales figures in Taiwan, the first-half 2026 automotive market results are now official. A total of 202,278 vehicles were registered, marking a modest 1.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Despite uncertainties such as unclear U.S. tariff policies, global economic and geopolitical tensions, and rising raw material costs, Taiwan's auto market has shown signs of recovery. If this momentum continues, annual sales could reach 410,000 units. Major brands have already begun reducing their reliance on U.S. production lines by adjusting product strategies, pricing, and after-sales services.

Looking at June alone, boosted by end-of-quarter promotions and the timely arrival of popular SUV models, monthly registrations surged to 41,361 units—up 25% from May and nearly 21% higher than the same month last year. This strong performance marks a bright start to the mid-year sales peak. As the traditionally slow Lunar Folk Month approaches, market attention will focus on whether consumer demand can remain strong, especially with several high-profile new models launching in the second half.

June’s market rankings reveal several standout performers. Toyota, distributed by Hotai Motor, experienced a major surge, registering 12,615 units in a single month—an increase of over 27% compared to both the previous month and the same period last year—setting a new monthly record for 2026. The domestic best-seller Corolla Cross and the imported RAV4 together contributed nearly 7,500 units, showcasing Toyota’s powerful product lineup and brand strength, which continue to widen its lead over competitors.

Tesla, the EV leader, demonstrated strong momentum in the first half of 2026, marking its third entry into the overall top 10 this year—each time landing in the top three. Unlike previous months when the Model Y carried the brand, June saw both the Model 3 and Model Y arriving in large numbers, driving Tesla’s total registrations to 4,369 units—second only to March’s 5,421. This delivery wave pushed Tesla’s first-half cumulative registrations to 11,589 units, elevating it to fourth place in the annual market ranking.

Taiwan Honda launched a facelifted version of its flagship SUV, the CR-V, in June, officially introducing the e:HEV hybrid powertrain in response to market demand. The new model debuted strongly, delivering impressive sales. Supported by the refreshed CR-V and steady performance from the HR-V, Honda surpassed 2,000 units for the month, securing fourth place in the overall market.

Mazda’s moves also drew attention. The launch of the 'Final Edition' CX-5 suggests the popular SUV is nearing the end of its lifecycle. However, Taiwan Mazda’s effective marketing has maintained stable sales. Additionally, the late-May upgrade of the Mazda2 with enhanced features and price adjustments immediately boosted June’s sales by nearly 150 units, helping Mazda achieve a monthly total of 1,646 units and a solid sixth-place ranking.
