A food safety crisis involving Chung Lien's soy salad oil, which was found to contain benzopyrene levels exceeding legal limits, has spread nationwide in Taiwan. A well-known dry noodle brand, 'Zeng Ban Mian,' founded by celebrity Tseng Kuo-cheng, has been implicated. The parent company, Shi Wei Xian Co., Ltd., confirmed that two of its top-selling products—'Scallion Chili Oil Noodles' and 'Sesame Sauce Noodles'—used the contaminated oil from Chung Lien. The company has immediately sealed all inventory, removed affected products from shelves across all physical and online channels, and issued a public apology, promising a comprehensive refund and return program.
Shi Wei Xian Co., Ltd., the parent company of 'Zeng Ban Mian,' released an official statement confirming that on July 13, they received an urgent notification from a raw material supplier indicating that some ingredients contained the problematic oil from Chung Lien involved in the current food safety scandal. Upon receiving the alert, the company immediately initiated emergency response measures, conducting a full review of all product lines. All existing inventory in stores and warehouses has been completely sealed, and affected products have been removed and recalled from all retail and e-commerce platforms to prevent further distribution.
The two affected products are:
· Scallion Chili Oil Noodles (single pack, 4-pack bag, Costco 12-pack box): Affected purchase period from May 1 to July 15, 2026 (Minguo Year 115).
· Sesame Sauce Noodles (single pack, 4-pack bag): Affected purchase period from June 1 to July 15, 2026 (Minguo Year 115).
Zeng Ban Mian emphasized that all other products not listed above did not use the abnormal oil ingredients currently announced by Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration.
Consumers who purchased affected products can receive a full refund by August 31 by presenting a physical receipt, e-receipt, or product packaging (any one of the three) at the original point of purchase. For those who have lost their receipts or cannot identify the original purchase channel due to time elapsed, the company encourages direct contact via official customer service channels. A dedicated team will handle each case promptly.
