The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) convened its annual party congress today (19th) to elect members of the Central Standing Committee, the party's core decision-making body. The final vote results show that pro-Lai Qingde factions won a decisive 7 out of 10 seats: New Tide faction secured 3 seats, Justice Alliance won 1, Democratic Spring 1, Green Friendship 1, and Yongyanhui 1. The New Tide faction remains the largest single group within the party.
On the non-Lai side, the Ying faction won 1 seat, Su faction 1, and the Chen Ting-fei camp 1, totaling 3 seats. Additionally, Chiou Chih-wei, a legislator from the New Tide-aligned group, was elected Chair of the Central Evaluation and Disciplinary Committee.
The elected Central Standing Committee members are as follows: New Tide's three seats went to Taipei City Councilor Chien Shu-pei, Legislators Lin Chun-hsien and Hsu Chih-chieh. Justice Alliance's seat was retained by incumbent Central Standing Committee member Chen Mao-song. Democratic Spring's representative is Legislator Chen Pei-yu; Green Friendship's is incumbent committee member Chung Pei-ling; and Yongyanhui's seat was won by Kaohsiung City Councilor Lin Chih-hung.
The Ying faction's seat was claimed by Legislator Wang Shih-chien; the Su faction by Legislator Chang Hung-lu; and the Chen Ting-fei system by Tainan City Councilor Chen Yi-chen.
This outcome signifies a major consolidation of President Lai Qingde's power within the DPP, reinforcing his control over party affairs and policy direction. With a 7-3 majority, the Lai-aligned factions now dominate key decisions, potentially shaping the party's strategy for the next presidential election and cross-strait relations. The reduced influence of non-Lai factions suggests limited ability to challenge the leadership's agenda in the near term.
