Simon Lin, Honorary Vice Chairman of United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), suffered a brain hemorrhage in the early hours of today (19th), resulting in loss of consciousness. He was rushed from his home in Hsinchu Science Park's Baoshan area to the hospital for emergency treatment. Medical staff immediately convened a team of neurosurgeons and performed emergency surgery. He remains hospitalized and under treatment. Out of concern for his health, the family has decided to refrain from public comments for the time being. Simon Lin’s son, Hsu Hsuan-yu, posted on Facebook: 'Let’s all come together and send positive energy to help Dad pull through this danger!' As his condition remains unstable, the family continues to prioritize his health and has chosen not to make any public statements at this stage. The 74-year-old Lin was reportedly found unconscious at his Baoshan residence around 8 a.m. today and was immediately transported to the hospital by emergency personnel. The hospital has assembled a team of neurosurgical specialists to perform the operation, though full details remain under investigation. Lin is a veteran of Taiwan’s technology industry and has recently been active in political affairs, maintaining close ties with numerous political figures. Just last week, he gave an exclusive interview discussing Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke, recounting how he once strongly advocated for Yang’s nomination within the Kuomintang. Kuomintang Hsinchu County magistrate candidate Hsu Hsin-ying recently visited Lin to discuss topics such as how the electric vehicle industry inspires smart transportation and how high-tech industries can 'empower' cities. Both being alumni of National Chiao Tung University, they referred to each other as senior and junior, with Lin remarking, 'People call us the NCTU gang, but “gang” doesn’t mean a clique—it means helping each other.'
