The scandal over carcinogenic cooking oil continues to escalate. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an recently called for a public rally on Ketagalan Boulevard on July 25, gaining support from Taichung Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen and Taiwan People's Party Chairperson Huang Kuo-chang. However, New Taipei City Councilor Lin Bing-you from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) posted on social media calling the Blue-White coalition's demonstration 'a group mourning as if bereaved,' sparking widespread controversy.

In response, Yin Wei, Director of Taipei City's Research, Development, and Evaluation Commission, struck back during a web program on the 18th. He criticized Lin for using the phrase 'mourning as if bereaved' to describe Blue-White supporters, calling it a veiled insult equivalent to saying 'your family has died.'

Lin also pointed out that after the Ting Hsin gutter oil scandal, Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) set the maximum allowable level of Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) in edible oils at 2ppb. However, Yin questioned whether this standard has been effective, noting that Taiwan's cancer incidence rate has continued to rise over the past decade. He asked whether this indicates insufficient oversight and inspection by the central government.

'If the public has been exposed to超标 carcinogens for years due to lax regulation, shouldn't the ruling DPP, which has been in power for ten years, be held accountable?' Yin questioned.

Yin also challenged Lin's claim that 'Japan, which does not regulate BaP levels in edible oils, has a slightly lower cancer rate than Taiwan.' He asked what the original standards were and whether stricter regulations could have led to even lower cancer rates. He accused the DPP of revealing its true intentions—exploiting information asymmetry for political attacks and treating the public as 'ignorant.'

'If people don't know the full truth, it's because the central government has been covering things up. To then turn around and blame the public for being ignorant is nothing short of ridiculous,' Yin said.

Regarding Lin's suggestion that the KMT should protest at the Central Trust, Yin agreed that holding businesses accountable is valid, but stressed that the Executive Yuan must also examine its own administrative responsibilities instead of shifting all blame to manufacturers.

In response to Lin's claim that the KMT is 'criticizing victims' by not protesting at the Central Trust, Yin fired back: 'What exactly do you mean by “victims”?' He argued that the real issues lie with President Lai Qing-te's absence, Cho Jung-tai's cover-up, and DPP legislator Wu Cheng's reckless statements.

'Is the DPP government really the victim? Just for using those three words, you should apologize. If you don’t, you have no shame. You call others “stinky vulgar scum”? I throw those three words right back at you!' Yin concluded.
