Presidential Office Secretary-General Pan Meng-an attended an event today (19), where a journalist asked him about the KMT's call for a protest on Ketagalan Boulevard regarding carcinogenic cooking oil. Pan reportedly waved his hand, pushing the reporter away. The Presidential Office later issued a statement clarifying that Pan raised his hand to avoid colliding with large camera equipment on site, and expressed regret if any media personnel were accidentally touched.

In response, media commentator Huang Yang-ming, on the program 'News Straight Talk,' sarcastically remarked that the unluckiest person in this incident is actually the DPP's New Taipei mayoral candidate, Su Chiao-hui.

Huang pointed out that Premier Cho Jung-tai announced today the amendment of the Food Safety Act, requiring manufacturers above a certain scale to establish laboratories certified by the competent authority, with obligations for lab management and real-time reporting. However, such regulations already exist—Article 7, Paragraph 3 of the Food Safety Act states: 'Listed, OTC, and other food businesses of designated scale by the central competent authority shall establish laboratories to conduct the aforementioned self-inspections.'

Huang criticized that the existing rules are too broad and lack enforcement: 'Our government manages these businesses in a very “laid-back” way. The DPP has been in power for many years, holding a legislative majority for eight years. What have they been doing all this time?'

Huang added that upon seeing Pan Meng-an’s gesture, his first thought was whether the DPP wanted to pour more fuel on the fire and further inflame public anger. 'Do they really have to treat the media this way? Of course, I believe the unluckiest person is Su Chiao-hui,' he said, emphasizing that the incident occurred at Su’s campaign rally, where the slogan 'Capable, Su Chiao-hui' was being chanted in the background.
