Central Taiwan travelers now have a new direct flight option. In response to steadily rising post-pandemic passenger volumes at Taichung International Airport, Zhejiang Loong Air has officially announced the launch of a new scheduled route from Taichung (RMQ) to Chengdu Tianfu (TFU), commencing operations on July 28. The route will operate twice weekly (every Tuesday and Saturday) using Airbus A320-200 aircraft, making it more convenient for residents in central Taiwan to visit scenic destinations such as Jiuzhaigou, and marking the achievement of approximately 30 scheduled and charter routes at Taichung International Airport this year.

Taichung Airport Reaches 30 Scheduled and Charter Routes – Annual Passenger Volume Expected to Exceed Pre-Pandemic Levels

With Loong Air joining the cross-strait direct flight network, this marks the second mainland Chinese carrier, after China Eastern Airlines, to enter the central Taiwan market. Statistics show that due to the active expansion of scheduled and charter flights, Taichung International Airport has reached a cumulative total of approximately 30 routes this year, with flight networks spanning mainland China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Macau.

The Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and relevant Taichung Airport units anticipate that, driven by the gradual restoration of international routes and stable recovery in total passenger volume, the airport's overall annual passenger throughput in 2023 has a high chance of surpassing pre-pandemic levels. To meet long-term international route development needs, the CAA officially launched the 'Taichung International Airport 2045 Master Plan' last year and is now actively conducting comprehensive planning for Terminal 3 and a new aircraft maintenance zone, significantly enhancing the air gateway capacity for central Taiwan.
