Watching short videos on smartphones can now evolve into creating in-depth industrial stories. The Formosa Plastics Group's General Management Office has partnered with Ming Chi University of Technology to launch the first-ever '2026 Reel It, Make It Real' New Media Talent Summer Camp, targeting high school and vocational students nationwide. Through hands-on courses in news reporting, short video production, artificial intelligence tools, script planning, and social media management, the program aims to cultivate digital storytelling skills for the next generation. The application deadline has been extended to 11:59 PM on July 26.

More than just filming: empowering youth to communicate issues clearly

Centered on the theme 'Make a Reel, Make it Real,' the camp goes beyond teaching camera techniques, editing, and shooting. It guides students from identifying problems and understanding complex topics to crafting compelling narratives, transforming industrial, technological, and sustainability issues into accessible and impactful video content.

Industry mentors and university faculty co-teach the program, inviting award-winning directors, seasoned citizen journalists, radio producers, and hosts to guide students through topic ideation, interview questioning, scriptwriting, video production, and final presentations—offering a firsthand experience of real-world new media workflows.

Inside the Mailiao Six-Light Complex: youth perspectives on ESG

A major highlight of the camp is the field visit to the Formosa Plastics Mailiao Six-Light Industrial Park, taking students out of the classroom. Participants will closely observe circular economy practices, smart manufacturing, environmental protection, energy management, and corporate sustainability, creating visual documentation from a youth perspective under mentor guidance.

Ming Chi University will open its New Media Talent Studio, professional photo studios, and recording rooms, providing filming, audio recording, and editing equipment. Students will personally complete planning, production, and presentation, gaining experience in creative expression, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving through team-based competitions.

Extended application period and accommodation for out-of-town students

The camp will run from August 17 to 20, with a cap of 35 high school and vocational students nationwide. The program includes professional courses, shuttle service between Ming Chi University and the Mailiao site, meals during the event, and camp uniforms. Accommodation is available for students from outside the region, lowering participation barriers.

Organizers hope that through industry-academia collaboration, students will transition from passive viewers of short videos to active, discerning, and socially aware new media creators. More information and registration details are available on the official social media platform 'Youth Media Lab.'
