To ignite a new culinary dialogue between authentic Sichuan cuisine and local Taiwanese ingredients, Yun Cang Chinese Restaurant conducted two in-depth culinary research trips to Chengdu, Meishan, and Chongqing in Sichuan, China, in April and May this year. The team visited markets, century-old restaurants, Michelin and Black Pearl establishments, and beloved local street food spots, tasting, exchanging, and learning firsthand to deeply explore the evolution and essence of contemporary Sichuan cuisine. Upon returning to Taiwan, the team integrated the culinary insights gained into their creations, launching the limited two-night 'Chengdu Banquet' on the evenings of July 24 and 25.

Weng Ming-Dao, General Manager of Yun Cang Chinese Restaurant, stated that this trip to Chengdu was not about replicating local dishes, but about deeply understanding the enduring classic flavors of Sichuan cuisine and how food culture transforms across eras. The goal was to identify which tastes could truly resonate with Taiwanese palates and evolve into a uniquely Taiwanese interpretation of Sichuan cuisine. He emphasized that the team sought not only Sichuan cooking techniques but also the timeless spirit behind the cuisine and its diverse expressions shaped by local terroir, culture, and time. After returning to Taiwan, through repeated discussions, adaptations, and innovations, the team aims to create a 'Yun Cang Sichuan cuisine' for the Taiwanese people. 'We are not bringing Chengdu to Taiwan—we are allowing Sichuan flavors to continue growing here.'

Weng stressed that this Chengdu learning journey marks the beginning of Yun Cang's 'World Table Initiative,' aiming to rekindle the team's culinary初心 through overseas observation, continuously visiting cities worldwide to deeply understand their food cultures and bring those精华 back to Taiwan, creating new cuisine that blends global vision with local identity.

Each dish in the 'Chengdu Banquet' draws inspiration from this journey, reinterpreted using Taiwan's seasonal ingredients and Yun Cang's accumulated culinary techniques. Dishes include 'Huo Xiang Sichuan-Style Pan-Fried Fish' combining Sichuan huoxiang flavor with fresh Taiwanese fish, 'Golden Garlic Silver Thread Giant Prawn Balls' inspired by Chengdu's clay pot cooking, and 'Crispy Skin Sichuan Pepper Roast Goose' highlighting the aroma of Sichuan pepper—collectively showcasing the layered complexity of Sichuan flavors.

The two-night-only banquet on July 24 and 25 begins with 'Jin Guan Nine-Taste Welcome Platter,' symbolizing Chengdu's diverse flavors, followed by 'Dried Abalone Shark Fin Soup,' 'Golden Garlic Silver Thread Giant Prawn Balls,' 'Crispy Skin Sichuan Pepper Roast Goose,' 'Jin Guan Aromatic Tea,' 'Huo Xiang Sichuan-Style Pan-Fried Fish,' 'Traditional Peanut Sugar Guokui,' and concludes with 'Rich Almond Soup Stewed Bird's Nest,' guiding guests through the delicate and profound depth of Chengdu's culinary culture.

Beyond the banquet, guests will experience cultural elements such as Sichuan opera face-changing, tea-serving ceremonies, and Sichuan-style souvenirs, aiming to immerse attendees not just in a meal but in Chengdu's cultural ambiance, embarking on a 1,800-kilometer gastronomic journey through taste. Yun Cang Chinese Restaurant was founded by a team of professionals with five-star hotel culinary backgrounds, guided by the brand philosophy 'Flavor Creates Harmony, Time Preserves Treasures,' striving to let classic global flavors flourish anew in Taiwan through continuous learning, innovation, and cultural exchange.
