'I Am Human, I Oppose Toxic Oil' — the hunger strike at Ketagawa entered its third day today (21st). As the duration of the fast extended, the four participating youth — Yang Chih-tou, Lai Yi-jen, Ho Yuan-kai, and Chang Chia-hsin — experienced noticeable declines in physical strength and mental focus. They have collectively appointed Chen Kuan-an and Tsao Yu-ting as joint spokespersons to handle external communications and respond to public concerns.
Chen Kuan-an stated that the fast has now entered its third day, with all four participants showing signs of fatigue and reduced concentration. To ensure the safety of the participants, the organizers have arranged for a professional medical team to be stationed on-site, continuously monitoring health conditions and providing necessary medical support. The goal is to uphold the protest's message while safeguarding the well-being of those involved.
Regarding public concern over Ho Yuan-kai allegedly admitting to eating, Ho himself came forward to clarify. He explained that at the time of the interview, he had already fasted for over 53 hours. Due to prolonged fasting, his mental clarity and focus were impaired, leading him to mistakenly say 'just ate something' when he meant 'just went to the bathroom,' causing public misunderstanding. He expressed deep regret for the confusion.
Ho emphasized that the entire hunger strike has been live-streamed, and no food consumption has occurred throughout. He reiterated that the purpose of the protest is to raise public awareness about food safety, urging the government to take citizens' concerns seriously and implement comprehensive reforms. He urged the public not to let the focus shift due to unfounded speculation, and to continue pushing for concrete government action on food safety.
