In May this year, Putin specially flew approximately 6,000 kilometers from Moscow to Beijing to propose the 'Power of Siberia 2' natural gas pipeline project to Xi Jinping, but failed to achieve a breakthrough. After more than four years of war and economic isolation, Putin has become the party in need. The relationship between Russia and China is becoming increasingly unbalanced and at times even appears tense.
This pipeline, named 'Power of Siberia 2,' has been planned for 20 years and is currently a lifeline urgently needed by Moscow, yet it was flatly rejected by Xi Jinping. In 2013, during the first meeting between Xi and Putin, Xi Jinping said that Putin was his role model. Today, however, within this partnership, Xi has become the dominant figure, reversing the power dynamic.
