Nantou County Government integrated its tourism industry and participated in the 2026 Hong Kong Leisure & Sports Expo under the theme 'Nantou Go! Enjoy Nantou by Taiwan Good Travel.' During the seven-day exhibition, the county's dedicated booth attracted a large number of Hong Kong tourists, with over 10,000 promotional brochures fully distributed. A B2B promotion dinner was also held during the event, successfully connecting with multiple Hong Kong travel agencies and media, further opening new avenues for international cooperation in Nantou tourism.
The Tourism Department noted that Hong Kong and Macau have traditionally been important inbound markets. According to statistics from the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation for 2025 (Reiwa 7), a total of 1,203,733 Hong Kong visitors and 106,406 Macau visitors traveled to Taiwan. The linguistic and cultural similarities have driven remarkable tourism spending. Taichung International Airport currently operates several daily flights to Hong Kong and Macau, resulting in a high rate of independent travelers from these regions.
The Tourism Department actively promotes in-depth travel itineraries in Nantou through the 'Taiwan Good Travel' independent travel program, continuously marketing to domestic and international target audiences. In early July, the department collaborated with the four counties of central Taiwan—Chung-Hua-Tou-Miao—to promote tourism in South Korea, followed by campaigns at the Hong Kong and Taipei Summer Travel Fairs. In August, the four counties will jointly promote in Singapore, aiming to attract more travelers who prioritize visiting Nantou.
This marks the third time Nantou has participated in the Hong Kong Leisure & Sports Expo. Held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the venue simultaneously hosted toy, snack, and book fairs across different floors, generating significant foot traffic. The Nantou booth focused on in-depth tourism routes under the 'Taiwan Good Travel' program, featuring high-quality brochures and live Cantonese explanations, attracting numerous Hong Kong residents to inquire about tourism information. Estimated booth visits exceeded 10,000. Routes including the Sun Moon Lake and Xitou dual-axis line, the Qingjing Highland Pasture route, and the Shuanglong Rainbow Suspension Bridge route were particularly popular among Hong Kong tourists, with many expressing intent to prioritize Nantou in their next Taiwan itinerary.
Two main stage promotional events were held during the fair, with Cantonese hosts vividly introducing the 'Taiwan Good Travel' routes, creating a lively atmosphere and enthusiastic audience interaction. The events combined scenic video displays, traveler experience sharing, and limited-edition souvenir raffles, effectively enhancing Nantou County’s brand image. Live-streamed segments were widely shared across Hong Kong social media, further extending the promotional impact.
