The Future Relay and Yuanmeng women's baseball teams, supported by the Ting Hsin Peace and Charity Foundation, not only swept the championship and runner-up titles at this month’s National Women's Baseball Championship, but also had 19 players selected for the Chinese Taipei training squad for the 10th Women's Baseball World Cup, aiming to qualify for the upcoming World Cup group stage.
To build a sustainable baseball economic ecosystem, Ting Hsin Peace and Charity Foundation founder Wei Ying-chung has systematically supported grassroots, community, and women's baseball for years. In 2019, he led the revival of the professional team Wei Chuan Dragons. This year, the Dragons won the Chinese Professional Baseball League’s first-half season championship (https://reurl.cc/Z8QLRQ), while the Future Relay women's team claimed the national championship, achieving an unprecedented eight consecutive titles.
In 2019, Wei Ying-chung learned that these female players struggled to even afford tournament registration fees, prompting him to step in. Over the years, the foundation has provided nutritional allowances, training facilities, and operational resources, significantly reducing the financial burden on players. As more athletes pursued their dreams, the foundation expanded its support by sponsoring the new 'Yuanmeng Women's Baseball Team.' Grateful for Wei’s long-term care—comparable to that of a parent—players affectionately call him 'Dad Wei.'
According to the latest announcement by the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association, 11 players from Future Relay and 8 from Yuanmeng were selected for the 28-member World Cup training squad, with the remainder from National Taiwan University of Sport, Kaiman Yingli, and CTBC Financial. Nearly 70% of the training squad are players supported by the Ting Hsin Peace and Charity Foundation.
The final Chinese Taipei representatives will compete in the World Cup group stage in Tainan from August 23 to 27. Among the six teams—Chinese Taipei, Japan, Philippines, Cuba, United Kingdom, and Venezuela—the top three will advance, joining the top three from the other group, to the World Cup finals in the United States next July.
Hsieh Jung-yao, team leader of Future Relay, expressed gratitude to Chairman Wei for the foundation’s support: 'We are deeply thankful for stepping in when our players needed help the most.'
Chiu Hui-shan, Deputy Executive Director of the Ting Hsin Peace and Charity Foundation, stated: 'Beyond supporting team participation, we actively study the real gaps and needs in women's baseball development. We hope to introduce sports science, injury prevention, and advanced training resources so players can receive more professional and comprehensive development.'
