The 'Shennong Market,' hosted by the Kaohsiung City Government Agriculture Bureau, will be held at Aozidi Forest Park on July 25 and 26 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Nearly 100 high-quality small farmers and specialty brands from Kaohsiung and central-southern Taiwan will gather to sell fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, agricultural processed goods, and unique local souvenirs. The event will also feature cooking demonstrations, live music performances, magic shows, and a shopping point redemption program, inviting the public to visit during summer break and experience the flavors of local agriculture and food culture.
The market brings together excellent farmers from across Kaohsiung and central-southern Taiwan, offering a wide variety of agricultural products such as seasonal vegetables, fruits, and specialty processed items. Visitors can purchase the freshest local produce all in one place while engaging in face-to-face conversations with farmers to learn about the unique agricultural characteristics and land stories of different production areas in Kaohsiung.
To promote food and agriculture education, this year’s market specially invites Yan Sihua, a farmer from the indigenous region known as 'Colorful Fields,' to demonstrate the making of a traditional indigenous 'millet-fermented chili sauce.' Using Namasia millet and chili peppers, this flavorful sauce will be paired with marinated pork and fresh vegetables in cooking demonstrations, allowing visitors to explore the unique crops and culinary traditions of indigenous communities.
Yao Chi-wang, Director of the Kaohsiung City Agriculture Bureau, stated that the Shennong Market is more than just a sales platform for small farmers. It aims to bring the public closer to Kaohsiung’s rural communities through cooking experiences, food education, and cultural exchange, helping people understand the dedication of local farmers, support regional agriculture, and foster co-prosperity among agriculture, culture, and tourism.
Yao emphasized that the Shennong Market has long connected farmers, agricultural associations, and specialty brands across Kaohsiung, helping high-quality agricultural products reach consumers directly. It also allows citizens to discover seasonal and regional specialties while enjoying a market experience that combines shopping, hands-on activities, and leisure. In addition to stage performances, a shopping point redemption program will be available during the event. Visitors who accumulate points through purchases can redeem fresh fruits from small farmers and specialty goods from agricultural cooperatives, making the market experience even more rewarding.
The Agriculture Bureau invites the public to bring their families to Aozidi Forest Park on July 25 and 26 to explore nearly 100 small farmer booths, savor summer flavors, and experience the authentic and heartfelt charm of Kaohsiung’s agriculture.
