Taiwan tech giant Wistron has constructed the 'D1 AI Smart Factory' in Dallas, Texas, USA, officially opening on the 22nd. This marks Wistron's first manufacturing base in the United States and has produced the first-ever NVIDIA GB300 motherboard in the U.S. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang personally attended the opening ceremony, declaring that what 'Made in Taiwan' represents is no longer 'cheap' but 'advanced,' urging Taiwanese people: 'As Taiwanese, you should all feel very proud.'

Is the D1 factory just the beginning? Chairman Lin: D2 factory will be at least twice the scale

Lin Hsien-ming stated that the D1 factory represents a $700 million investment, covering approximately 324,000 square feet, and is Wistron's first manufacturing site in the U.S. Production of NVIDIA's GB300 is already underway. 'The D1 factory is just the beginning,' Lin said, revealing that planning for the D2 factory is already underway, with its future scale expected to be at least twice that of D1. Wistron will continue to build localized supply chains and develop high-tech production lines.

Jensen Huang stated in an interview that Taiwan is the U.S.'s fourth-largest trading partner, but 'for NVIDIA, Taiwan is the largest trading partner.' He emphasized that TSMC, Foxconn, Wistron, and other Taiwanese companies investing and establishing factories in the U.S. represent a significant achievement in U.S.-Taiwan cooperation and a crucial step in supporting global AI industry development. 'The U.S. should be very grateful,' he said.

Jensen Huang pointed out that Taiwan still possesses high 'cost-efficiency,' but is by no means 'low-cost.' Regarding the cost challenges facing U.S. manufacturing, he acknowledged that compared to Taiwan, the U.S. has higher labor and living costs, and the local supply chain ecosystem is not yet mature—challenges that will take time to overcome. However, the AI market is experiencing rapid growth, and 'now is the perfect time to invest.'
