The carcinogenic oil controversy continues to escalate in Taiwan. On the 21st, New Taipei City KMT councilor Lu Chia-kai, Banqiao district council candidate Deng Kai-hsun, and council candidates for Xindian, Shenkeng, Shiding, Pinglin, and Wulai districts, You Hao-lin, held a joint press conference. They accused Su Chiao-hui, the DPP's New Taipei mayoral candidate and legislator, and her campaign team of failing to take responsibility in overseeing the central government on the toxic oil issue. They criticized her for evasive, irrelevant, and inaccurate responses, accusing her of double standards and a 21-day 'ghosting' period, questioning her eligibility to run for mayor of New Taipei City.
In response, Su Chiao-hui, speaking on the 22nd, emphasized that she has maintained almost daily public appearances and has never avoided addressing issues.
Regarding the 'toxic oil case,' the KMT-backed candidates invited Su Chiao-hui to join a protest on Ketagalan Boulevard on July 25 to oppose toxic oil and safeguard food safety. Su responded that she has answered the issue multiple times and her position remains consistent. She reiterated her clear stance on national food safety, particularly regarding this oil scandal.
Su stressed that local governments should take frontline inspection responsibilities, the central government should reform systemic regulations, and prosecutors and investigators should handle legal investigations. She emphasized that all levels—local, central, and judicial—must take responsibility and act in coordination to collectively protect public health and safety. 'Public safety is a shared goal. Everyone must fulfill their maximum responsibility in their respective roles,' Su stated.
