Democratic Progressive Party New Taipei mayoral candidate and Legislator Su Chiao-hui attended the Legislative Yuan's Interior Committee inspection of the construction project for the new facility of the 'New Taipei City Fire Department's First Rescue Battalion, Haishan Company, and Juguang Substation' on the 22nd. She announced that over NT$80 million in central government funding has been successfully secured through collaboration between central and local governments, improving firefighters' standby conditions and enhancing emergency response and rescue capabilities. She pledged to continue advocating for improved firefighter compensation and operational rights.
Su Chiao-hui stated that she and Legislator Chang Hung-lu jointly secured the inclusion of the Juguang Substation's new construction project into the Forward-Looking Infrastructure Development Program. They also obtained funding from the Executive Yuan's 'Mid-Term Plan for Building a Resilient Taiwan: Disaster Response and 119 Command Center Relocation for Extreme Events' to establish information, network, and communication systems. The total central government subsidy exceeds NT$80 million. She expressed gratitude to the New Taipei City Government and central agencies for their cooperation in building a more comprehensive fire service base.
She noted that Banqiao District's population has exceeded 550,000, with nearly 30,000 emergency response cases annually, placing Juguang Substation at the forefront of critical rescue operations. The new facility will accommodate large, modern firefighting vehicles to meet increasing demands from high-rise buildings and will feature a smart fire service counter that automatically dispatches units upon receiving 119 calls, improving firefighters' response efficiency.
As a member of the Legislative Yuan's Interior Committee, Su emphasized her ongoing efforts to improve police and firefighter compensation. This year, she successfully advocated for the Ministry of the Interior to increase duty allowances for New Taipei City's police and firefighters, with each firefighter receiving up to nearly NT$3,000 more per month. She pledged to continue urging the central government to expand late-night duty allowances to include standby personnel, further protecting frontline firefighters' rights.
In addition to inspecting fire infrastructure, Su visited Longxing Market in Banqiao in the morning, where she greeted vendors and residents, receiving warm welcomes and numerous requests for handshakes and photos.
Regarding Fuzhou District development, Su stated that over the past decade, she has collaborated with Legislator Chang Hung-lu and local councilors to secure multiple central government projects, including adding a Fuzhou Bridge ramp to Provincial Highway No. 65, assisting Taiwan University of Arts in constructing a multi-purpose activity center, and securing nearly NT$50 million from the Ministry of the Interior to build a detention basin at Huaqiao High School, expected to be completed this year to alleviate local flooding issues.
Su emphasized her continued commitment to advancing the Taiban Light Rail and Fuzhou Urban Plan, accelerating transportation infrastructure and improving living functions to create a safer, more convenient, and livable New Taipei City.
