Thailand's Civil Aviation Authority has announced that, to align with international standards, a new baggage inspection policy will take effect on October 16, 2023. In the future, if X-ray screening detects suspected dangerous items in checked luggage, security personnel will have the authority to open and inspect the luggage even if the passenger is not present, eliminating delays caused by waiting for passengers to arrive.

According to The Thaiger, under the new rules, if checked luggage is found via X-ray scanning to contain prohibited or suspicious items, security officers may legally open the luggage. The entire inspection process will be recorded on video, and after inspection, a 'Baggage Inspection Notice' will be placed inside the luggage. Passengers are not required to be present during this process. Any prohibited items discovered will be confiscated and not returned. Travelers are advised to carefully check the contents of their checked luggage before departure.

In addition to the new baggage inspection policy, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand has already stipulated in early June that spare lithium batteries and power banks must only be carried in carry-on luggage and are strictly prohibited in checked baggage. Furthermore, passengers are strictly forbidden from charging power banks using in-flight power outlets or using power banks to charge other electronic devices such as smartphones during the flight.
