To create a more family-friendly parenting environment, the Taichung City Government has further enhanced the digital services at its parent-child centers. Starting in May, the city's Social Affairs Bureau fully implemented a QR code entry system, allowing parents to check in quickly without filling out paper forms. Additionally, from June 16, an online borrowing service for educational toys and books was launched, expanding eligibility to children under 6 years old, enabling parents to easily search, reserve, and borrow resources digitally.
The Social Affairs Bureau explained that to streamline service processes and improve efficiency, parents can register on the Taichung Parenting Resource Website to obtain a personal QR code. By simply showing the QR code on their smartphones upon arrival, they can complete check-in instantly, significantly reducing waiting times. Many parents have reported that the new system is much more convenient and time-saving, especially when managing young children, compared to the previous paper-based registration.
In conjunction with the integration of the Taichung Parenting Resource Website, the online borrowing service allows parents to check the inventory of toys and books across all parent-child centers, make reservations online, and pick up items at designated locations, making parenting resources more accessible than ever.
Moreover, the borrowing eligibility has been expanded from children aged 0–3 to those under 6. The borrowing unit has also shifted from household-based to child-based, allowing each child to borrow one set of educational toys or three books for a 14-day period. Families with multiple children under 6 can now borrow resources individually for each child, ensuring that children at different developmental stages receive age-appropriate learning and exploration materials.
Currently, Taichung’s parent-child centers offer a wide range of services for infants and caregivers aged 0–6, including play spaces, parent-child activities, parenting education, childcare consultations, child development screenings, and toy/book lending. Moving forward, the city government will continue integrating digital technologies to build a smarter, more convenient parenting environment that supports families with confidence.
