Late on the 22nd, New Taipei City's Health Bureau received a self-report from Lianjing Green Technology Co., Ltd., indicating that its 'Lianjing Camellia Oil' tested positive for benzopyrene at 2.9 ppb (the safety standard is 2.0 ppb). A total of 939 bottles have already entered the consumer market. In response, the Health Bureau has ordered Lianjing Green Technology to halt operations and initiate a full product recall and withdrawal.
Today, the Judicial and Legal Committee of the Legislative Yuan invited the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Health and Welfare, the Judicial Yuan, the Executive Yuan's Consumer Protection Committee, and the Food and Drug Administration to deliver a special report on the 'Chung Lian carcinogenic oil incident,' covering investigation progress, consumer rights protection, and food safety regulation, followed by a question-and-answer session.
Prior to the session, Minister of Health and Welfare Shih Chong-liang addressed the media, stating, 'Yesterday, the New Taipei City government received a voluntary notification from the manufacturer about a batch of camellia oil exceeding benzopyrene limits. We have taken preventive measures to remove the product from shelves, and the investigation is ongoing.' When asked whether this case is related to the Chung Lian Oil incident, Shih responded, 'No, it's different—the raw materials are entirely distinct.'
