As the summer vacation travel season approaches, the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) reminds the public that when planning domestic and overseas travel, in addition to collecting travel information and confirming documents, they can also plan travel-related insurance according to their own needs to reduce economic losses caused by sudden events and provide additional protection for their own and their family's travel itineraries.

Chen Ching-yuan, Deputy Director-General of the Insurance Bureau of the FSC, said at a press conference today (23rd) that when planning travel insurance, in addition to choosing the most basic "Travel Safety Insurance," which covers the risk of bodily injury or death caused by accidental injury (accidents caused by external sudden events, not by illness) during the travel period, they can also combine it with the "Accidental Injury Medical Expenses Additional Clause" to cover the risk of medical expenses incurred due to accidental injury.

If traveling abroad, travelers can also add the "Overseas Sudden Illness Medical Health Insurance Additional Clause" to cover the risk of medical expenses for hospitalization, outpatient, or emergency treatment due to sudden illness during overseas travel. However, the content of each product is different, and some companies' products include legal infectious diseases. For medical expenses caused by legal infectious diseases announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, coverage can be obtained.

Additionally, travelers can also take out personal overseas travel inconvenience insurance to cover the risk of inconvenience during travel caused by sudden situations such as trip cancellation, flight delays, trip changes, luggage delays, luggage loss, and travel document loss.

If choosing to travel to mainland China via the small three links, travelers can also add the "Additional Clause for Water Public Transportation Delay Insurance for Offshore Cross-Strait Routes." The insurance company will compensate for additional expenses for meals, accommodation, and transportation between the port and the accommodation location during the delay period for those who, as passengers, take water public transportation operating on offshore cross-strait routes and experience a delay of more than 4 hours from the scheduled departure time, according to the agreement.

Chen Ching-yuan pointed out that the current methods of taking out insurance are diverse and convenient. In addition to taking out insurance through physical channels, the public can also take out insurance at any time using the internet or App. The insurance industry has also set up service counters at airports to provide insurance services, and the public is encouraged to make good use of them.

On the other hand, since each insurance company offers travel insurance products with different combinations of items, the FSC reminds the public to carefully read the contents of the insurance policy terms before taking out insurance, understand the coverage, scope, exclusions, and compensation conditions, etc., to ensure that they meet their own needs and avoid compensation disputes, so that travel protection is more comprehensive.
