Household care, companionship, and chores should not be limited by gender roles—every family member can participate. During summer vacation, New Taipei City Public Library is launching a special free parent-child story drama titled 'Daddy, You Can Do It,' using warm and engaging stories to help children understand that 'home belongs to everyone' and foster the idea of 'sharing housework together,' breaking down gender stereotypes in household responsibilities.

Wu Chia-shan, Director of New Taipei City Public Library, stated that reading is one of the most precious times for parent-child interaction. Every parent plays a vital role in their child's life, and jointly participating in their daily lives, reading, and growth not only strengthens family bonds but also helps build an equal and cooperative family relationship. Through relatable everyday story scenarios, the 'Daddy, You Can Do It' drama helps children understand that caregiving and housework in the family are not confined by gender. By experiencing stories and reading, children can feel the meaning of mutual cooperation and shared responsibilities among family members, learn to respect and appreciate each other's efforts, and cultivate a family mindset centered on collaboration and sharing.

The 'Daddy, You Can Do It' story drama follows the daily life of the Little Wisdom Pig family, teaching children that housework should be shared and that everyone can be a helpful member of the household. Supporting children's growth is also something every family member can participate in. Performances will be held at the Main Library on August 1 (Saturday) and August 29 (Saturday); at Linkou Li Ko-Yung Memorial Library and Wugu Branch on August 9 (Sunday); and at Shulin Sanduo Reading Room and Tucheng Children's Family Library on August 22 (Saturday). Families are invited to enjoy the story drama together, learning about shared parenting and gender equality through reading and theater, and sharing warm, joyful family moments. Additionally, participants who complete the event questionnaire will receive a lovely small gift.

In addition to the 'Daddy, You Can Do It' story drama, New Taipei City Public Library is also hosting a series of gender equality-themed reading events throughout August and September. On August 29 (Saturday) at the Main Library, the event 'Why Are Ghosts Always Female?—Gender Stories in Taiwanese Folklore' will explore the social conditions of women reflected in traditional folktales and re-examine gender roles and cultural meanings in customs from a gender equality perspective. On September 5 (Saturday), the parent-child event 'Magical Amulet Protects You—Let's Tackle Digital Risks Together!' will use picture book reading combined with card-based board games to guide children in identifying risks of online gender-based violence and developing positive coping skills. The 'Seeing Her in the Tribe—Weaving a Path Home' parent-child workshop will use shared reading to help children and parents understand how indigenous women use wisdom, skills, and collective cooperation to face life and environmental challenges. Moreover, 22 branches including Banqiao Siwei, Luzhou Jixian, Yonghe Minquan, and Youth Library will host a series of activities such as themed book exhibitions, lectures, workshops, movie screenings, and picture book storytelling. All events are free to attend. For detailed information and registration, please visit the New Taipei City Public Library website at http://www.library.ntpc.gov.tw.
