Ørsted has been awarded the Silver Prize in the Corporate Division of the '2026 Taiwan Biodiversity Action Award (TWBA)', making it the only offshore wind energy company to receive recognition this year. This marks the second consecutive year that Ørsted has received this honor, affirming its commitment to balancing large-scale offshore wind farm development and operation in Taiwan with tangible actions to protect natural ecosystems.
Hosted by the Taiwan Sustainability Climate Change Research Foundation, the Taiwan Biodiversity Award responds to global biodiversity trends by encouraging all sectors to prioritize biodiversity. As one of Taiwan's most prestigious nature conservation awards, this year's edition marks its fourth iteration. Companies are rigorously evaluated across four dimensions: 'Corporate Relevance,' 'Strategy and Innovation,' 'Ecosystem Services,' and 'Implementation Performance,' recognizing those that protect natural capital and promote harmony between humans and nature.
Wang Hsin-Chieh, Chairperson of Ørsted Taiwan, stated: 'Biodiversity is embedded in our core corporate strategy. We are actively implementing ecological measures that go beyond regulatory requirements, ensuring our offshore wind farms generate positive impacts on the natural environment. We will continue collaborating with academia, conservation groups, and local partners to realize sustainable solutions that balance green energy development with ecological preservation, showcasing Taiwan's offshore wind industry's innovative and practical capabilities in sustainability to the world.'
Ørsted's award-winning initiatives focus on two key biodiversity actions: 'Marine Life Tracking' and 'Bird Habitat Enhancement,' both grounded in scientific research and local collaboration, demonstrating concrete outcomes for coexistence between offshore wind and natural ecosystems.
First, the Marine Life Tracking Research has contributed to building a scientific database on Taiwan's marine species. Since 2024, Ørsted has partnered with Professor Su Nan-Chieh's research team at National Taiwan Ocean University to establish systematic survey and tracking methods for three marine species—Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, Speckled whip ray, and Taiwan seabream—in central Taiwan waters. Through a citizen science network established with local fishermen in Changhua, approximately 130 fishermen have participated in recording sightings of these species, enabling researchers to more comprehensively map their movement patterns.
Second, Ørsted has invested in bird habitat enhancement measures to improve the quality of stopover sites for migratory birds. Taiwan lies along the 'East Asian-Australasian Flyway,' serving as a critical feeding, breeding, and resting ground for numerous migratory bird species. Over the past two years, Ørsted has formed a research team with National Taiwan University, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, and local conservation groups, conducting ecological surveys of migratory raptors based in Changhua and gradually expanding to other key bird habitats in Taiwan. Conservation efforts target seven key migratory bird species—Streaked shearwater, Little tern, Black-faced spoonbill, Far Eastern curlew, Black-tailed gull, Kentish plover, Oriental stork—and one raptor species.
Moving forward, Ørsted will continue collaborating with industry, government, academia, and local partners to advance sustainable offshore wind farm development, construction, and operation in Taiwan. By deepening its positive actions for nature, Ørsted aims to set a benchmark for harmonious coexistence between offshore wind energy and marine ecosystems.
