The New Taipei Metro has achieved a historic breakthrough! With the successful completion and operation of the Sanchong Line this year (2026), the New Taipei Metro Bureau has further reviewed and expanded the ongoing rail network, announcing the official upgrade of the original 'Three Rings Six Lines' to 'Four Rings Eight Lines.' In the future, not only will the Wugu Taishan Line and Taishan Banqiao Line be integrated, but new lines connecting Taipei City, such as the Zhonghe Guangfu Line, and lines connecting Taoyuan City, such as the Xin Taolin Line, will also be added, creating a four-directional and eight-way golden living circle in Northern, New Taipei, Taoyuan, and Kaohsiung.
Exceeding 108 kilometers! Hou Yu-yi, the mayor of New Taipei City, stated that since taking office, he has actively promoted the 'Three Rings Six Lines' policy. In the past 8 years, 4 important lines have been completed and put into operation, including the Circular Line and Danhai Line Phase 1, which were put into operation in 2020, the Ankeng Light Rail, which was put into operation in 2023, and the Sanchong Line, which was officially put into operation this year (2026).
Currently, the total operating length of the metro in New Taipei City has reached 108 kilometers, and the number of operating stations has reached 90, both setting the highest record in Taiwan.
Hou Yu-yi further pointed out that after the completion of the 'Four Rings Eight Lines' network, the total length of the metro in New Taipei City will reach 189 kilometers and will have 182 stations. At that time, New Taipei City will have an average of 4.5 metro stations per 100,000 people, surpassing Tokyo in Japan and Seoul in South Korea, realizing a convenient living circle connecting Keelung in the north, Taipei in the middle, and Taoyuan in the south.

The New Taipei Metro Bureau Director Lee Cheng-an supplemented that the 'Four Rings Eight Lines' integrated the existing operating, under-construction, and planned rail systems. The detailed planning of each ring and line is as follows:
First Ring: Formed by the New Taipei Circular Line, South-North Circular Line, and Wenhu Line. Second Ring: Includes the Wanhua Zhonghe Line, Tucheng Xulin Line, and Xinzhuang Line. Third Ring: Formed by the Bannan Line, Airport MRT, Sanchong Line, and its extended Bade section, further connecting the Taoyuan Green Line. New 'Fourth Ring': Adopting the Wugu Taishan Line and Taishan Banqiao Line, connecting with the New Taipei Circular Line, South-North Circular Line, and East Circular Line to form a ring. Eight-line network structure: In addition to the two highlights of the Zhonghe Guangfu Line (connecting Taipei City) and Xin Taolin Line (connecting Taoyuan City), which are planned to be reported to the central government for review, the remaining six lines include: Danhai Line, Ankeng Line, Xizhi Minsheng Line, Keelung Line, Bali Line, and Shenkan Line.
Through 'Four Rings Eight Lines,' New Taipei City not only transforms the network structure centered on Taipei City but also allows peripheral areas to be directly connected horizontally, bringing citizens a faster and more convenient commuting and living experience.
