The Central Weather Administration has issued a high-temperature alert today (26th) for the Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan areas, warning of temperatures exceeding 36°C. Meteorological expert Wu Derong noted that while moisture levels will gradually decrease this week, sun protection and heatstroke prevention are necessary during non-rainy periods. International forecast models indicate a potential typhoon developing far east of the Philippines, with all simulated paths showing no threat to Taiwan.
High-temperature yellow alerts have been issued today for Taipei City, New Taipei City, and Taoyuan City. According to the Central Weather Administration, daytime temperatures in these areas are expected to exceed 36°C, with recommendations for hydration and seeking shade during outdoor activities.
Typhoon No. 12, 'Nangka,' made landfall in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, this morning, as shown by Hong Kong radar data. It continues moving northwestward but is rapidly weakening due to terrain disruption. However, its residual circulation poses a threat of heavy rainfall across southern China, requiring continued vigilance.
Wu Derong pointed out that international weather models for the coming week simulate the formation of another typhoon, which is expected to intensify into a 'large and strong' typhoon typical of a super El Niño year. However, all current simulated paths indicate no threat to Taiwan.
Starting tomorrow, localized rainfall is expected in southern and southeastern regions due to southerly winds and residual moisture from 'Nangka,' with isolated thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. On the 28th and 29th, moisture levels will slightly decrease, with occasional brief showers in the south and southeast. Afternoon thunderstorms will remain likely in mountainous areas, potentially affecting nearby lowlands.
From the 29th onward, skies will clear and temperatures will rise. Simulated models show decreasing moisture from the 29th to August 1st, with the Pacific high-pressure system slightly strengthening. Atmospheric conditions will stabilize, leading to clear and hot weather nationwide. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms may still occur in mountainous areas. From August 2nd to 4th, the Pacific high will dominate, resulting in stable, clear, and extremely hot conditions across Taiwan. Continued sun protection and heatstroke prevention are essential.
