Public outrage over Zhonglian's carcinogenic oil scandal has reached a boiling point. On July 25, the 'I Am a Person, I Resist Poisonous Oil in Taiwan' rally drew more than 200,000 participants to Ketagalan Boulevard in Taipei. Chen Mu-yi, a veteran actor and Golden Horse Award winner for Best Supporting Actor, recently posted on Facebook urging people to 'remember to go to Ketagalan Boulevard on July 25,' while questioning, 'Who could possibly harbor such deep hatred to repeatedly trample on Taiwan's land?'
In response, the Facebook page 'Politics Insight Bureau' launched a scathing rebuttal, asking, 'Is it only large-scale recalls on Ketagalan Boulevard that count as 'loving Taiwan'? Can't the people gather there to protest toxic oil?' The page directly attacked Chen, calling him a 'shameless old green bird,' and challenged: 'Are citizens standing up for food safety on Ketagalan Boulevard 'trampling on Taiwan'? But when you lead massive recall campaigns there, that's 'loving Taiwan'?
'Politics Insight Bureau' further criticized: 'Stop using 'loving Taiwan' as a sacred idol to flatter the DPP. You old green birds even label the public's most basic demand for food safety as subversive. Who is truly trampling on Taiwan's democracy and human rights?' Netizens flooded the comments with sarcasm toward Chen: 'Can't we oppose toxic oil? Is eating it justified?' 'Is anyone even listening to him?' 'Double standards!' 'Isn't this extremely hypocritical?' 'Act more, speak less, okay?' 'This is typical color-coded logic: I'm allowed, you're not. Regardless of agreement, learn to respect others.'
