The United Daily News reported today that President Lai Qingde is scheduled to observe live-fire training during the Han Kuang military exercises, drawing criticism from opposition parties who accuse the government of diverting public attention. In response, Defense Minister Koo Li-hsiung stated on the 27th that any presidential inspection itinerary will not undermine the true purpose of the Han Kuang exercises: enhancing joint operational capabilities through realistic, combat-oriented training. He emphasized that the president's presence will not disrupt the military's regular training schedule.

Koo clarified that the report published by the United Daily News today is inaccurate. The Ministry of National Defense has not planned any live-fire exercises on the main island. The president's inspection schedule is still under adjustment, but no live-fire training components will be added solely for the purpose of the presidential visit. He stressed that while the president, as commander-in-chief, has the duty to understand military training conditions and to boost troop morale, the content and execution of drills will not be altered in any way due to the inspection. The integrity and professionalism of the exercises remain paramount.
