Wei Chun-yu, editor of 'Lai Er Xiao Zhang' and former director of the KMT's New Media Department, used AI deepfake technology to mimic President Lai Qingde's voice, producing the promotional video 'You Bu De Ni' for the KMT's July 25 anti-toxic oil rally. Following an investigation, the Criminal Investigation Bureau stated it will refer the case to prosecutors for command and further examination to determine whether charges under Articles 210, 216, and 220(2) of the Criminal Code—including forgery of official documents—apply.

However, legal scholar Liu Jingyi seized on the discussion of document forgery to renew her criticism of the academic credentials of Taiwan's representative to the UK, Jiang Ya-qi. On her Facebook page, Liu wrote: 'When people talk about the chapter on document forgery, I can't help but recall how the representative to the UK forged a Durham University law PhD she never attended, deceiving society and the National Science and Technology Council for over a decade.'

She added: 'After being formally reported with evidence by citizens, she gathered supporters to cry foul, even enlisting the help of national security advisory committee members. This gang-like behavior has duped the public and academic review panels, seriously harming public interest. Why hasn't the prosecutor yet filed charges under the document forgery provisions?'

Liu also criticized: 'I wonder if the mayoral candidate, who claims expertise in foreign affairs and national defense and is said to have known about this for a long time, thinks this kind of fraudulent diplomatic personnel appointment is acceptable? Those who know me know I'm open to dialogue, but I cannot comply with defending deliberate falsehoods.'
