Taichung City Government is actively promoting its universal taxi service, utilizing the 'Ai Jie Song Reservation Integration System' authorized by the Ministry of Transportation's Transportation Research Institute. Since the pilot launch in September 2020, the service has completed 177,791 trips for people with mobility difficulties by the end of May 2024, earning widespread recognition.

The Taichung Transportation Bureau stated that users can currently reserve rides up to 14 days in advance through the Ai Jie Song system. To further improve accessibility, starting August 1, 2024, the reservation window will be extended to 9 PM every day, offering higher-quality barrier-free transportation services for people with mobility challenges.

Transportation Bureau Director Ye Zhao-Pu emphasized that the universal taxis are specially designed for wheelchair users, allowing direct entry and exit while seated, equipped with certified wheelchair securing devices and trained drivers. In addition to rehabilitation buses and long-term care vehicles, users can now book universal taxis via the 'Ai Jie Song' app without restrictions on identity, location, or purpose. The app, available for free download on iOS and Android stores, connects users with cooperating fleets in Taichung, offering hourly availability within a 14-day window.

Users holding the Taichung Senior Citizen and Love Card can receive an 85 NTD fare subsidy per ride by simply swiping their card on the vehicle's onboard device, ensuring safe and affordable travel.

To better meet the transportation needs of people with disabilities, seniors, and those with limited mobility, the Transportation Bureau has collaborated with the Ministry of Transportation's Transportation Research Institute and the six major metropolitan cities to pilot the 'Ai Jie Song' reservation service. The service now handles over 80,000 trips annually, with more than 70 universal taxis currently operating in Taichung City, providing friendly and professional transportation for people with disabilities, seniors, and others with mobility needs.

Director Ye explained that Taichung has integrated pilot experiences and introduced a contracted universal taxi program, inviting willing taxi operators to join. By consolidating supply and demand information through the 'Ai Jie Song' platform, the system enhances operational efficiency for drivers and simplifies the booking process for users. The city aims to expand universal taxi services to build an inclusive, barrier-free city where every citizen can travel with dignity and ease.
