Taipei City Councilor Jen Shu-pei was recently labeled the 'Dementor of Document Requests' by Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an amid a controversy over information requests. On the 28th, Overseas Community Affairs Council Chairperson Hsu Chia-ching responded, stating she was actually Jen's mentor and expressed 'honor' at being associated with such an accusation, saying it reflects her identity as a serious and diligent public representative—unlike the current trend of baseless attacks.
KMT councilor Yu Shu-hui pointed out that when Hsu served as a Taipei councilor, Jen was her assistant. Yu recalled that Hsu frequently requested large volumes of data from the city's Labor Bureau, provoking then-director Su Ying-kuei to angrily declare that the public servant database should be opened so Hsu could search it herself. Su even accused Hsu of being 'repulsive' during council sessions.
In response, Hsu expressed gratitude for Yu's 'high respect,' interpreting it as recognition of her seriousness and impactful performance as an elected official. She emphasized that her rigorous self-initiated overtime and meticulous data review enabled her to accurately identify administrative errors during questioning—unlike today's trend of unfounded media-driven attacks.
Hsu questioned what constitutes 'oversight,' arguing that basic research should precede criticism in a representative body. 'Is randomly reading newspapers and spewing accusations really oversight?' she asked. She criticized officials who cannot answer councilors' questions and instead attack them for requesting documents. She directly called out Mayor Chiang as 'a mayor not even worthy of being called Ma Ying-jeou 1.0,' urging him to do his job properly instead of fearing document requests and scrutiny.
Regarding Chiang Wan-an's proposal of a no-confidence motion, Hsu stressed that only Legislative Yuan members have the legal right to initiate such a motion. 'He isn't even a member of the party caucus, let alone a cadre or party chair. What qualification does he have to propose this?' she questioned.
