Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare has recently unveiled a new 'Health Coin' initiative to encourage citizens to engage in healthy behaviors such as receiving vaccinations and undergoing government-funded cancer screenings. Participants can earn Health Coin points, which are set to go live before the start of the school term in September 2024.
On the 28th, Dr. Shen Jing-fen, Director of the National Health Administration, announced that the foundational app architecture for Health Coin has been completed. In the first phase, the program will partner with the four major convenience store chains, allowing users to redeem points for practical and healthy food items such as tea eggs, mineral water, unsweetened tea, and chicken breast.
Dr. Shen emphasized that the Health Coin app has already been integrated with the Ministry's information division and the National Health Insurance Administration. Integration with external partner companies via the app is also underway and progressing steadily. She added that ongoing discussions with additional vendors are taking place, with cooperation plans and future marketing strategies to be announced in due course.
Initially, redemptions will focus on healthy food products. However, the program aims to expand in the future to include partnerships with fitness centers, sports facilities, and even hospitals. Dr. Shen stated that the goal is to build a sustainable ecosystem that promotes long-term public health engagement.
