The Central Weather Administration today (29th) warned that nine counties and cities, including Taipei and Taoyuan, should remain vigilant against temperatures reaching 36°C. Meteorological expert Wu Derong stated in his 'Leak the Heavens Classroom' column that Typhoon 'White Dolphin' has explosively intensified to the upper limit of a moderate typhoon within just 36 hours of formation and is about to easily cross the threshold into a severe typhoon. It is expected that by tomorrow (30th), it could reach an average wind speed of 63 meters per second, potentially claiming the title of 'Wind King of the Year' in 2025.

Today, the Central Weather Administration released a high-temperature advisory, indicating that due to hot and clear weather, nine counties and cities across Taiwan have issued a yellow high-temperature alert, with temperatures possibly exceeding 36°C.

Yellow Alert Areas: Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Taichung City, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung County.

Meteorological expert Wu Derong noted in his 'Leak the Heavens Classroom' column that today, atmospheric moisture slightly decreased, with occasional localized brief rainfall in southern and southeastern regions. Afternoon thunderstorms in mountainous areas may affect some nearby lowlands. Prior to rainfall, weather across most areas will be generally hot. The public is advised to take sun protection measures and stay hydrated to prevent heatstroke during outdoor activities.

Typhoon 'White Dolphin' Set to Become 'Large and Strong' Severe Typhoon! Wind Speed to Surpass This Year's 'Bavi' Record — Latest Path Revealed

According to the latest typhoon information from the Central Weather Administration, Typhoon 'White Dolphin' has explosively intensified to the upper limit of a moderate typhoon just 36 hours after formation and is expected to easily surpass the severe typhoon threshold. The Administration forecasts that 'White Dolphin' will strengthen to an average wind speed of 63 meters per second tomorrow, very likely surpassing the previous record of 60 meters per second set by Typhoon 'Bavi' and officially becoming the 'Wind King of the Year'.

Wu Derong pointed out that the latest European model ensemble simulations show that 'White Dolphin' will continue to intensify into a typical large and powerful typhoon during a super El Niño year, thanks to exceptionally favorable conditions including high sea surface temperatures, high ocean heat content, low vertical wind shear, and strong upper-level divergence. Over the next five days, 'White Dolphin' will move northwest-westward toward the southeastern waters of Japan, posing no immediate threat to Taiwan.

One-Week Weather Forecast: Peak Summer Heat from August 2; Increased Moisture and Thunderstorm Risk from August 6

Regarding the weather outlook for the coming week, Wu Derong analyzed as follows:

Wednesday to Saturday (July 29 – August 1): The Pacific high-pressure system will slightly strengthen, leading to gradually more stable atmospheric conditions. Localized afternoon thunderstorms will still occur in mountainous areas and some adjacent lowlands, with generally hot daytime conditions across regions.

Sunday to Next Wednesday (August 2 – August 5): Under the influence of the Pacific high pressure, the atmosphere will be very stable. It will be peak summer, with clear and scorching weather across all regions. The public should remain vigilant against heatstroke and UV damage.

Next Thursday to Friday (August 6 – August 7): Atmospheric moisture will gradually increase, raising the probability of localized afternoon thunderstorms.
