It has been one month since the Zhonglian Oils tainted oil incident erupted. Nanchiao, a major food manufacturer that was the first to independently detect the carcinogen 'benzopyrene' in upstream oil tanks, has been caught in the storm and faced widespread scrutiny. In his first public statement, Nanchiao Chairman Li Kan-wen told reporters from New Weekly that Nanchiao merely purchased raw oil from Fushou and was neither a shareholder of Zhonglian Oils nor a complicit 'tainted oil merchant,' urging society to restore fairness to the company.
Regarding public perception linking Nanchiao with Zhonglian Oils and its three major shareholders (Fushou, Fumao, and Taishan), Li emphasized that the shareholder relationship among Fushou, Fumao, and Taishan in jointly establishing Zhonglian Oils is very clear. 'It is true that Nanchiao has purchased oil from Fushou for over a decade, but we absolutely did not participate in the manufacturing process, nor are we one of the shareholders.'
