On July 29, KMT legislator Hsieh Lung-chieh questioned during a legislative inquiry whether a relative of a senior Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) official had gone missing in mainland China. Reports suggest the individual may have been detained in Shenzhen's Luohu Detention Center due to involvement in a criminal case. Chiu Chui-cheng, representative of the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), confirmed that the case was received the previous afternoon and stated that the council will use the cross-strait joint crime-fighting mechanism to inquire with the mainland side, actively investigate the case, and provide substantial assistance to the family.
It has also been widely rumored that a close relative of a southern legislator from the DPP, who holds a central party position, has lost contact in mainland China. Chiu Chui-cheng appeared at the Legislative Yuan on the 29th to deliver a report and respond to questioning.
During the session, Hsieh Lung-chieh pointed out that while incidents involving opposition figures in mainland China are often publicized, cases involving DPP-affiliated individuals are frequently suppressed. He emphasized the need for transparency. In response, Chiu stated that the MAC had only just received the case and would actively seek factual details through established mechanisms to support the affected family.
