On the afternoon of July 28, 2025, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture in Kyushu, Japan, forcing the temporary closure of approximately 150 local tourist sites and causing severe casualties. To support the affected region, Taiwan's two major convenience store chains—FamilyMart Taiwan and 7-ELEVEN (President Chain Store Corp.)—have launched an emergency donation campaign titled 'Kumamoto Donation' starting today, July 29, through August 31. 7-ELEVEN’s campaign will end precisely at 23:59 on August 31, lasting 34 days in total.
Both companies are collaborating with the Christian Mustard Seed Mission Society. Donations collected will be channeled through the international aid organization AAR Japan to support first-phase rescue operations and the reconstruction of victims’ homes.
The Christian Mustard Seed Mission Society has already contributed USD 10,000 in emergency relief funds. In its official statement, FamilyMart clarified that the donated funds will be used for emergency distribution of daily necessities, evacuation shelter support, livelihood assistance for vulnerable families, and child welfare programs.
Donations can be made via the companies’ mobile apps or in-store kiosks.
【Mobile App Donations】 - OPENPOINT App (7-ELEVEN): Tap 'Services' → 'Online Donation' → Select the Mustard Seed Society’s earthquake relief project - FamilyMart App: Go to 'My Charity' → 'Donate $10 for Good' → Choose the Mustard Seed Society’s project
【In-Store Kiosk Donations】 - 7-ELEVEN (ibon): Select 'Recharge & Payment' → 'Charity Donation' → Choose 'Poverty & Hunger' category → Select Christian Mustard Seed Mission Society - FamilyMart (FamiPort): Choose 'Service & Mailing / Charity' → 'Love Charity' → Under 'Supporting Poverty & Hunger', select Christian Mustard Seed Mission Society
FamilyMart reminds donors that those who wish to receive a donation receipt should check the option during the transaction. Receipts will be mailed by the charity after the campaign concludes.
