Led by Paris Olympic Double Gold Medalists! Four World Champions Unite in Kaohsiung for First-Ever Breakdance International Competition at Weiwuying

Kaohsiung is set to welcome its most anticipated international street dance event this summer. The Kaohsiung City Government Sports Development Bureau, in collaboration with the Youth Affairs Bureau, is launching the '2026 Kaohsiung Breakdance International Competition' and the '2026 Xiong Zheng Wu Dou International Street Dance Competition,' integrating dance battles, sports experiences, and cultural exchange activities. The highlight, the '2026 Kaohsiung Breakdance International Competition,' will take place from August 29 to 30 at the Weiwuying National Arts and Culture Center for the first time, bringing together double gold medalists from the Paris Olympics and world champions to create Kaohsiung's largest international dance spectacle of the summer.

A total prize pool of TWD 1.5 million will attract top dancers from around the globe, positioning Kaohsiung as a major hub for Asian breakdancing. The press conference kicked off with a performance by Taiwan's rising b-boy talent Bboy NAK, followed by breakdance acts from Willy, Benson, and Yin Yin, and energetic street dance performances by RiRi and Feifei, officially launching Kaohsiung's street dance series. From August 15 to 16, the Youth Affairs Bureau will host the 'Xiong Zheng Wu Dou International Street Dance Competition.' On August 21, the 'Kaohsiung International Ballroom Dance Open' will be held, culminating with the Sports Development Bureau's flagship breakdance international competition at the end of the month.

This year's biggest highlight is the first-ever gathering of four world champions on the same stage in Taiwan, including Paris Olympic breakdance men's gold medalist Phil Wizard, women's gold medalist Ami, 2025 Red Bull BC One world champion Issin, and 2025 WDSF World Championship winner Shigekix. This star-studded lineup is the most impressive in history. With a total prize purse of TWD 1.5 million, the competition is expected to draw elite dancers from around the world to Kaohsiung to compete at the highest level.

For the first time, this year's competition will be held at the Weiwuying National Arts and Culture Center's theater, providing a world-class competitive stage and offering audiences a theater-grade audiovisual experience. Outside the venue, a DAZN FanZone will be set up, featuring a public sports experience zone, performance stage, outdoor broadcast area, and interactive booths. Activities will include breakdance lessons, K-POP dance, aerobic classes, NBA esports experiences, and family-friendly interactive events, creating a sports carnival suitable for all ages.

Xie Ruixiang, Deputy Director of Weiwuying, stated that Weiwuying is not just a performing arts venue but also a platform for cultural exchange. She expressed hope that the breakdance international competition would showcase Kaohsiung to the world and invite the public to experience the charm of street dance culture.

Youth Affairs Bureau Director Lin Kaixuan noted that this year's 'Xiong Zheng Wu Dou' is partnering for the first time with the internationally renowned BOTY competition. In addition to the traditional crew battle and open styles battle, new breaking team and individual events have been added. By linking with the breakdance international competition, champions in breaking and open styles will directly qualify as seeded participants in the international event, creating a vital opportunity for Taiwanese dancers to step onto the global stage.

Sports Development Bureau Director Hou Zunyao stated that Kaohsiung continues to enhance its city visibility by hosting international brand events and collaborating with the Youth Affairs Bureau to promote breakdance as a sport. The goal is to establish Kaohsiung as a representative Asian breakdance brand event and an international street dance exchange city, and he expressed gratitude to central government agencies and corporate partners for their support.

The organizers announced that the '2026 Kaohsiung Breakdance International Competition' will be free to attend with ticket reservations. Attendees who complete registration and enter the venue will receive a seven-day free viewing gift card for DAZN, inviting people across the nation to visit Weiwuying at the end of August to witness the thrilling showdowns between world-class dancers up close and experience Kaohsiung's most passionate international street dance event.
