Last September, the first natural gas leakage explosion in Taiwan occurred at Taipower's Xindah Power Plant, causing residents of Kaohsiung's Yong'an District to lose sleep all night. On the 28th, Taipower announced that it would seek compensation of NT$2.8 billion from the contracted construction company. However, this public safety accident did not affect the subsequent project bidding of the team of China Steel and GE. The team not only won the Dalin Power Plant gas turbine update project less than a month after the accident but is also preparing to participate in the bidding for the Taichung Power Plant gas turbine project worth over NT$30 billion. GE's American background has become an unbeatable advantage. Since the DPP government came to power, Taiwan's energy policy has been transforming towards 'increasing gas and reducing coal,' an irreversible trend. Even after the gas turbine explosion at Xindah Power Plant last September, Taipower's investment pace in converting existing coal-fired units to gas turbines has not slowed down. The contracted team for the gas turbine at Xindah, which caused the public safety accident, China Steel Engineering and GE, successfully won the Dalin Power Plant gas turbine project in October last year.
