Mazda Taiwan recently announced the pre-sale launch of the all-new third-generation Mazda CX-5, introducing four initial models: the 25S Elite, 25S Exclusive, 25S AWD Premium, and 25S AWD Premium Plus, with a starting pre-sale price of TWD 949,000. The vehicle will officially launch on August 18, with首批 new vehicles expected to be delivered starting September 1. To boost initial demand, customers who complete their orders by August 17 can upgrade to the fourth and fifth years of the 'Comprehensive Peace of Mind' extended warranty for just TWD 5,000.
The CX-5 has long been one of Mazda’s most important global SUV models. This major redesign targets family vehicle needs, enhancing product competitiveness through a larger vehicle footprint, a fully upgraded digital cockpit, and advanced safety features, aiming to expand market share in the imported mid-size SUV segment.
What Are the Exterior Design Changes?
The third-generation CX-5 continues Mazda’s Kodo design language, featuring a newly introduced floating Kodo Wing on the front grille. The headlights incorporate a design element symbolizing the model name '5,' while the rear adopts a new Mazda logo with horizontal taillights, creating a wider visual impression.
The model also debuts a new 'Sea Blue' exterior color, achieved through next-generation paint technology and mica particle alignment, offering richer depth and variation under different lighting conditions, becoming a key identifying feature of this redesign.
Can Upgraded Space and Digital Technology Drive Customer Upgrades?
One of the biggest highlights of this redesign is the comprehensive upgrade in interior space and digital technology. The wheelbase has been extended by 115 mm to 2,815 mm, increasing rear knee room by 64 mm and headroom by 29 mm. The trunk depth has also increased by 45 mm, enhancing family passenger comfort and cargo convenience.
The cabin features a new HMI human-machine interface, standard with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Mid-to-high-end trims are equipped with a 12.9-inch display, while the top-tier model upgrades to a 15.6-inch central touchscreen. The system integrates Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a full-color HUD. Additional features include ventilated front seats, heated front and rear seats, driver facial recognition memory, and a dual-mode panoramic sunroof, enhancing both technological sophistication and comfort.
Maintaining the 2.5L Naturally Aspirated Engine—How Does Mazda Balance Handling and Safety?
Powertrain-wise, all models are equipped with a 2.5L SKYACTIV-G naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 188 horsepower and 26.2 kgf·m of torque, paired with a SKYACTIV-DRIVE 6-speed automatic transmission. The system has been retuned for improved responsiveness during initial acceleration and overtaking, enhancing daily driving smoothness.
The chassis retains a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension setup. AWD models feature the i-ACTIV AWD intelligent all-wheel-drive system, improving traction and cornering stability on slippery surfaces.
On safety, the new model comes standard with 9 SRS airbags, an ultra-high-strength body structure using up to 2,000 MPa steel, and the latest i-ACTIVSENSE active safety technologies. These upgrades aim to strengthen overall product competitiveness through comprehensive active and passive safety enhancements.
Can the TWD 949,000 Starting Price Strategy Drive a New Sales Momentum?
Mazda Taiwan has announced pricing for the four models: 25S Elite at TWD 949,000, 25S Exclusive at TWD 1,089,000, 25S AWD Premium at TWD 1,149,000, and the top-tier 25S AWD Premium Plus at TWD 1,169,000.
As competition in Taiwan’s imported SUV market intensifies, Mazda is entering with a sub-TWD 950,000 entry price, leveraging Japan-imported quality, a larger vehicle footprint, a digital cockpit, and comprehensive safety features to enhance perceived product value. The new vehicles will arrive at nationwide showrooms starting August 1, with the first test drive events launching on August 22.
