Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an recently called for a vote of no confidence in the current administration and suggested that Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai would be a suitable successor to Premier Cho Jung-tai. In response, Cho Jung-tai stated on the 30th that he appreciates Chiang Wan-an's public praise of Chen Chi-mai. He added that if local leaders can effectively manage food safety and regulatory oversight in their jurisdictions, they serve as role models for others, and thus urged Chiang to learn from such examples.
Cho also emphasized that votes of no confidence fall under the Legislative Yuan's authority, while dissolving the legislature is the president's prerogative. He noted that mayors have their own responsibilities, and as a Taipei citizen, if the mayor focuses too much on matters beyond city governance, he would consider Shen Po-yang, the DPP's Taipei mayoral candidate, to be an outstanding candidate for the position.
