In response to recent youth policy proposals by Kuomintang New Taipei mayoral candidate Lee Sichuan, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) New Taipei mayoral candidate Suh Chia-hui stated today (30) during a press briefing at the Legislative Yuan that she has been rolling out a comprehensive youth policy since April this year. The policy covers employment guidance, startup funding, revitalization of underutilized city-owned spaces as youth leisure and exchange venues, provision of up to three free counseling sessions for youth mental health, and planning for youth social housing. The goal is to establish a complete support system addressing youth needs across living, working, and housing.

Suh noted that she has continuously engaged with youth from various fields, including discussions with writers and ACGN industry youth on New Taipei’s cultural and creative development, exchanges with divers to promote diving sports, and joint discussions with fishing village youth on sustainable fisheries and tourism development. Through ongoing dialogue, she aims to ensure policies better reflect actual youth needs.

Suh added that, if elected mayor, she will create more platforms for youth to showcase their talents and realize their dreams, enabling every young person to find opportunities and express themselves in New Taipei. She believes the city will continue to grow through youth creativity and vitality.

Additionally, regarding the Kuomintang’s recent motion of no confidence, Suh reiterated that food safety requires cooperation between central and local governments. She emphasized that local governments are responsible for frontline inspections and enforcement, while the central government must continuously improve regulations and systems. Only through clear division of responsibilities and close collaboration can public food safety be truly safeguarded and societal expectations met.
