The Taoyuan Metro Green Line project has reached a critical milestone! Taoyuan City Government continues to advance transportation infrastructure, recently completing the first full-line fully automated driverless test on the priority opening section. On the 27th, Taoyuan Mayor Chang Shan-cheng specially invited Mirna Harms, Global Head of Siemens Mobility, to board the train together. The train smoothly traveled from G11 Cultural Arts District Station to G15 Shuiwei Station in fully automated driverless mode, symbolizing a major breakthrough in the core signaling system verification and laying a solid foundation for the goal of opening the northern seven stations by the end of this year. The Green Line is a vital transportation artery for the development of the Taoyuan Aerotropolis. Among the stations, G15a Guolin Station is located at the heart of the aviation industry and is adjacent to A11 Hankou Station on the Airport MRT line. Once operational, it will quickly connect Taoyuan International Airport, the Taiwan High-Speed Rail Taoyuan Station, and the Taipei-New Taipei living circle, maximizing the efficiency of the rail network. Additionally, right next to G15a Station lies the eastern industrial cluster of the Aerotropolis and the Guolin land readjustment area. As surrounding developments continue to come online, significant population growth is expected, providing strong support for the station’s future development and regional growth. How Was the Fully Automated Driverless Test Conducted? Real-World Procedures and Details Revealed This test fully simulated future operational scenarios. The train departed from G11 Cultural Arts District Station and steadily traveled in fully automated driverless mode all the way to G15 Shuiwei Station. Upon reaching the terminal station, it switched to manual operation mode and successfully entered the North Depot, fully rehearsing future operational procedures. Mayor Chang stated that the signaling system has successfully passed its phased verification, a crucial step before opening. Taoyuan Metro Engineering Bureau Director Liu Qing-feng explained that all stations on the priority opening section have successfully passed fire safety inspections. Regarding accessibility inspections, deficiencies previously identified at G13, G14, and G15 stations have been corrected and confirmed by review committees. Improvements and re-inspections for the remaining stations are being accelerated recently. Meanwhile, building management system integration and intensive training for operational personnel are being conducted simultaneously. Why Did Siemens’ Executive Travel All the Way to Taiwan? Cross-Border Collaboration Demonstrates Commitment Mirna Harms, Global Head of Siemens Mobility, made a special trip to Taiwan, enduring a 26-hour flight and staying only briefly for two days to personally participate in the test. Mayor Chang emphasized that the Green Line is a highly significant fully automated driverless metro project for Siemens in Taiwan, with the core signaling system developed directly by Siemens’ team. Her visit demonstrates a high level of commitment and importance placed on this project, greatly boosting the city government’s confidence in achieving the scheduled opening. Reflecting on the project’s progress, Mayor Chang mentioned that when the city government took over the project in early 2023, there wasn’t even a single detailed design drawing. Setting a goal to open the northern seven stations by the end of this year seemed nearly impossible to outsiders. However, through the team’s relentless efforts in under four years, they have now successfully achieved this milestone—no easy feat. How Much Further Until Year-End Opening? Engineering Team Enters Final Sprint With the opening schedule approaching and only about three to four months remaining until year-end, this is the most critical sprint phase. Mayor Chang specially encouraged the engineering team, quoting the phrase 'The revolution has not yet succeeded; comrades must continue to strive,' urging everyone to strictly oversee every detail and verification test, continuing to give their all to ensure the Taoyuan Metro Green Line opens on schedule under safe conditions, providing citizens with high-quality and convenient rail transport services.
