Minister of National Defense Ku Yu-Hsiu met today (31st) with a delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives' Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and the Global Environment, led by Congresswoman Young Kim, expressing deep appreciation for the delegation’s tangible demonstration of bipartisan congressional support for Taiwan. Minister Ku emphasized that Taiwan will continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the United States and fellow democracies, resolutely defending freedom and democracy while safeguarding regional peace and stability.
According to the Ministry of National Defense, Congresswomen and Congressmen including Young Kim, Suhas Subramanyam, Michael Cloud, and Randy Feenstra visited the Ministry this morning, where they were personally received by Minister Ku. Both sides exchanged views on critical issues such as Taiwan-U.S. defense cooperation and the evolving security landscape in the Indo-Pacific.
Minister Ku stated that the Ministry deeply recognizes the strong support demonstrated by Congresswoman Young Kim within the U.S. Congress, particularly in advancing arms sales to Taiwan, negotiating the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and advocating for pro-Taiwan provisions. These efforts serve as substantial support for maintaining peace across the Taiwan Strait and enhancing Taiwan’s national security resilience. Facing gray-zone threats and escalating military challenges in the Indo-Pacific region, Taiwan remains committed to working closely with the United States and democratic partners to defend freedom and democracy and uphold regional stability.
During the meeting, Congresswoman Kim expressed profound concern over cross-strait security. She emphasized that bipartisan support for Taiwan in the U.S. Congress represents the strongest consensus, expressing firm belief that the Taiwan-U.S. relationship will continue to deepen steadily. She further pledged ongoing collaboration and exchanges to support Taiwan in strengthening its self-defense capabilities.
