To safeguard food safety and protect the quality and reputation of the Hsinchu rice noodle industry, the Hsinchu City Health Bureau announced today (31st) the results of expanded formaldehyde testing on rice (flour) manufacturers. All 23 products from 15 manufacturers showed 'no detection' of formaldehyde. The test results have been published on the Health Bureau's Food Safety Zone (https://reurl.cc/Wzr1ok) for public access.

Ming Hao Enterprise Co., Ltd. has already been placed under special investigation and referred to prosecutors. The company has been ordered to cease sales and manufacturing, with all products fully recalled and removed from shelves. Expanded testing of products on-site at Ming Hao Enterprise revealed that some items still failed initial screening. After retesting, the company will face strict legal penalties based on the final results.

Mayor Kao Hung-an emphasized that Hsinchu rice noodles are a vital local industry, and the misconduct of a single company should not tarnish the quality and reputation built by the majority of reputable manufacturers over many years. The city government has convened a panel of food and other field experts to form a special investigation team. This team will comprehensively review raw material sources, production processes, equipment used, working environments, product storage, and transportation. By synthesizing all relevant test data, they will conduct professional analysis to identify possible causes of formaldehyde detection. The city government will continue its investigation based on scientific, objective, and cautious principles. Once results are confirmed, they will be promptly disclosed to the public and handled according to relevant regulations to protect consumer food safety and rights.

Mayor Kao also stated that the city government continues to listen to industry needs and provide support, working hand-in-hand with manufacturers to safeguard the excellent quality and century-old brand of Hsinchu rice noodles. She urged citizens and consumers to confidently purchase and continue supporting Hsinchu’s high-quality industry.

Mayor Kao stressed that Hsinchu rice noodles are an important representation of local food culture. Moving forward, the city will strengthen promotional efforts through advertising and events, including leading manufacturers to participate in domestic and international food exhibitions and various specialty markets, to rebuild brand image and consumer confidence.
