Geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East have led to severe fluctuations in international oil prices. To help ease the rising operational costs for drivers, the Ministry of Transportation and the Executive Yuan have launched the 'Taxi Fuel Price Discount Subsidy Program.' The subsidy, initially set at NT$6,000 per vehicle, has been significantly increased to a maximum of NT$15,000, allowing a discount of NT$5 per liter that can be used continuously until the end of the year.
The Highway Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation reminds the public that applications for this subsidy will close on August 31. Currently, approximately 5,500 taxis have yet to complete registration, primarily concentrated among taxi fleets in the Taipei-Keelung metropolitan area (commonly referred to as 'Double North'). Drivers and fleet operators who have not yet applied are urged to act within the final month to avoid forfeiting their entitlements.
Drivers take note! Taxi fuel subsidies have been boosted to NT$15,000, with only one month left to apply — 5,500 vehicles still unregistered
According to the latest statistics from the Highway Bureau (as of July 28), as high as 94% of taxis across Taiwan have already completed registration, benefiting approximately 83,000 vehicles. The total amount of subsidies disbursed has exceeded NT$160 million, indicating strong willingness among drivers to participate.
The government introduced this subsidy policy primarily in response to rising international oil prices triggered by escalating tensions in the Middle East. To stabilize domestic living costs and maintain transportation service availability, the Ministry of Transportation launched fuel subsidies in May and further enhanced the program on June 16 by raising the maximum subsidy to NT$15,000, effectively reducing drivers' fuel expenditure burden.
Double North fleets lag behind — finalize your 'discount card' application in the final month
Despite most vehicles having completed registration, the Highway Bureau notes that around 5,500 taxis nationwide remain unregistered, with the majority located in taxi fleets in the Taipei and New Taipei areas.
The Highway Bureau emphasizes that drivers or fleets wishing to apply for the fuel subsidy must first obtain a discount card from a participating oil company. The application process is as follows:
1. Select a partner oil company: Choose either 'CPC Corporation, Taiwan' or 'Formosa Petrochemical' to apply for a dedicated discount card.
2. Complete eligibility registration: If you already possess a discount card but have not yet registered for the subsidy, ensure that registration procedures are finalized by August 31.
3. Check application details: For information on application requirements, required documents, and physical service locations for both CPC and Formosa Petrochemical, drivers can visit the official websites of the Ministry of Transportation’s Highway Bureau or the respective oil companies.
Drivers must not miss out on this vital operational support fund — please verify your discount card registration status immediately and complete your application before the deadline!
