Former Taiwan People's Party chair Ko Wen-je is currently embroiled in legal issues related to the Jinghua City case and a 'national debt collection' controversy. Meanwhile, Ko's wife, Chen Pei-chi, who previously revealed that her husband's bank account had only NT$6,000 remaining, was recently spotted at Beijing Airport. Photos showed her seemingly resting with eyes closed in the departure hall, sparking public skepticism: how could she travel abroad while their accounts were frozen?
In response, Chen has recently posted a series of photos from her trip to China on Facebook, mocking the 'Green Bird' group for overreacting. Today (1st), in a new post, she detailed her travel expenses and questioned: after 35 years as a physician, doesn't she have the right to take a one-week overseas trip?
Who did Chen Pei-chi travel to China with? Where did the money come from?
Chen stated that this trip included visits to Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Beijing. She challenged the notion that such a trip must cost millions or even tens of millions of dollars. Despite constant questioning about her travel funds, she emphasized her 35-year career as a doctor and the fact that her son worked for several years before pursuing his PhD and is now employed in Taiwan. 'Is it really impossible for my son to afford a one-week trip abroad with his mother?'
Regarding expenses, Chen explained that she has never flown business class, considering it poor value. Accommodation costs were NT$5,050 for three nights in Shanghai (with breakfast), NT$2,384 for two nights in Hangzhou (without breakfast), NT$2,842 for two nights in Beijing, and an additional NT$1,170 for an extra night due to a flight delay.
Why the clash with Green Bird? Chen upset over airport photo
Chen noted that the total accommodation cost for the two travelers was NT$11,000. She expressed particular anger over the airport photo—not because it was unflattering, but because it captured the pain-relief patches she wore after taking a bus from a remote hotel. 'It really made me furious! I plan to post several Facebook replies confronting Green Bird!'
She identified Green Bird as the source because the caption mocked her 'double chin' and 'calf muscles,' despite her weight being only 43 kg. 'Who else but Green Bird would take such a photo, edit it that way, and upload it?'

On other expenses, Chen shared her experience with digital payments, noting that almost no one used cash. High-speed rail tickets cost NT$3,190 for two people to Hangzhou and NT$6,518 to Beijing. Meals cost around dozens of RMB, tea at scenic spots was about 7–8 RMB, and clothing purchases were over 100 RMB.
She also criticized how the color green, which she called 'the most beautiful color,' has been turned into a symbol of evil by the DPP in Taiwan. 'What a pity!' she said, accusing Green Bird of trying to 'swallow her alive' and likening Ko Wen-je’s critics to 'sharp-tongued swordsmen.'

Did the Beijing trip have a special purpose? Chen mocks Hsu Chia-ching
Chen criticized green-leaning media for baseless speculation, saying that her simple tourist trip was portrayed as having a 'hidden agenda' for going to Beijing—'completely illogical.' She contrasted her fully self-funded trip with that of Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission Chair Hsu Chia-ching, who spent NT$1.15 million of public funds on a 26-day overseas trip.
In closing, Chen questioned the Jinghua City case verdict, in which Ko Wen-je received a 13-year prison sentence for trying to resolve urban development issues. 'They claim the NT$2.1 million donation to the TPP’s political fund account is a bribe? That’s strange. The Control Yuan sent multiple letters stating that accountants made errors and selling small items constitutes corruption, demanding asset seizure. But why hasn’t the court seized the NT$2.1 million 'bribe' from the TPP’s political donation account?'
