Is an Insulated Bottle Trash or Recyclable? Metal Is Recyclable, Composite and Ceramic Materials Go to General Waste
Many people replace their insulated bottles due to reduced insulation from drops or lingering odors from coffee or tea, but they often don't know how to classify them correctly. The New Taipei City Environmental Protection Bureau has issued specific sorting guidelines based on material:
· Pure Metal Insulated Bottles (Metal Waste)
These fall under recyclable 'metal waste.' It is recommended to sort them properly and hand them over to recycling trucks.
· Composite Material Insulated Bottles (General Waste)
If the outer layer is plastic and the inner liner is stainless steel, it is considered composite material and cannot be recycled. It must be placed in a designated garbage bag and disposed of as general waste via regular garbage collection.
· Ceramic Insulated Bottles (General Waste)
Ceramic materials cannot be incinerated or recycled and must be properly packaged before being handed over to regular garbage collection.
Mistakes Could Cost Up to $6,000! Environmental Agency Urges Proper Sorting to Avoid Fines
The Environmental Protection Bureau emphasizes that failure to properly sort waste according to regulations may result in fines ranging from NT$1,200 to NT$6,000 under the Waste Disposal Act. Before disposing of old insulated bottles, residents must confirm the material and sort correctly. This not only promotes resource circulation and environmental protection but also avoids financial penalties.
