Fuji Rock Festival '26 Wraps Up Successfully! 120,000 Fans Rocked Naeba, Officially Announces 30th Anniversary Return

Japan's largest outdoor music festival, Fuji Rock Festival '26 (FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '26), successfully concluded at Naeba Ski Resort in Yuzawa Town, Niigata Prefecture. Despite challenging weather conditions including heavy rain and strong winds, the three-day event attracted approximately 120,000 music fans. On the final day, the organizers officially announced that the 30th-anniversary edition, Fuji Rock Festival '27, will be held from July 23 to 25, 2027.

This year’s lineup was exceptionally strong, featuring international and domestic headliners such as The xx, Massive Attack, and Fujii Kaze. The Taiwanese band A_Root Tong Gen Sheng also performed, drawing many fans from Taiwan.

The festival kicked off with highlights including Hi-STANDARD’s first appearance in 27 years and The xx headlining the final night, energizing the crowd. Day two saw massive turnout for Fujii Kaze and "Yoru ni Kakeru." (Yoasobi), while A_Root Tong Gen Sheng captivated audiences with their fusion of traditional instruments and modern music. Although the third day was hit by heavy rain, fans moved to indoor stages and continued celebrating late into the night with powerful performances by Massive Attack and others. The venue also featured the rookie stage "ROOKIE A GO-GO" and experiential zones promoting environmental sustainability.

Taiwanese poet and writer Li Hao, speaking to Storm Media, shared that this was his second visit, following his 2023 debut. He particularly looked forward to The xx and Massive Attack, and due to a scheduling conflict between Fujii Kaze and XG, he chose to see half of each performance. He described the experience using the title of his poetry collection, "Self-Inflicted Suffering," advising first-timers to prepare mentally and physically, as outdoor festivals are demanding. However, he emphasized that every music lover should experience Fuji Rock at least once to feel its unique atmosphere, culture, and operational excellence.

Fuji Rock’s appeal continues to attract countless Taiwanese music lovers. Gina, who has attended since 2010 and founded the Facebook group "Fuji Rock Taiwan Folk Headquarters" in 2012, recommends high-quality rain gear and well-worn hiking shoes, noting that walking 20,000 steps a day is routine. Huang Zheng, attending for the sixth time and serving as a bilingual volunteer interpreter, advises minimizing luggage to reduce physical strain and plans to return next year.

A 13-year veteran nicknamed "Non" humorously calls Fuji Rock a "utopia of capitalism," suggesting attendees relax and wander between stages like "picking up random groups" in Taiwan. He highly recommends the "FIELD OF HEAVEN" stage for discovering exceptional global music. Vera, attending for the second time, switched from camping to staying in a minshuku (guesthouse), advising first-timers to prioritize rest and sleep quality to maintain energy. She also stresses the importance of taking breaks during downtime to fully enjoy the event.

A nine-time attendee known as "Niigata Soul Food: Niigata Yakisoba" praised the festival’s environmental awareness and sound quality. He emphasized waterproof and thermal clothing as top priorities due to unpredictable mountain weather and warned against hypothermia. He also reminded attendees that "feet are the second heart," urging pre-event leg conditioning. Du Laoye, attending for the second time, highlighted "securing accommodation early" as the key to conquering Naeba, recommending immediate booking once the schedule is announced. He also shared using AirPods with real-time smartphone translation to understand Japanese artists’ stage banter, greatly enhancing his immersion.

Since its debut in 1997, Fuji Rock Festival has become Japan’s largest outdoor music event and one of Asia’s most iconic music festivals. Held annually over three days in late July, it embodies the core philosophy of "coexistence between nature and music."
