New Taipei mayoral candidate and legislator Su Chiao-hui continued her summer tour of family-friendly 'Otter Mom Paradise' events across New Taipei City, with the fifth stop held today (2nd) at Yingge Elementary School, drawing large numbers of families. Su, embodying the role of 'Otter Mom,' high-fived children, took photos, and joined in game booths, filling the venue with laughter. Popular children's TV hosts Banana Brother and Strawberry Sister made surprise appearances, engaging both kids and parents in various activities and energizing the event.
The interactive game booths combined education with entertainment, allowing children to learn through play. Su emphasized her vision of helping children grow through joyful experiences while creating lasting summer memories. She noted that her podcast 'Otter Mom Chiao Chiao Talk,' which she has hosted for over six years, has surpassed 350 episodes, promoting literacy and mother-tongue education. This year, she expanded the concept into physical events, touring districts including Banqiao, Linkou, Tamsui, Xizhi, and Yingge since late June—each attracting over 1,000 families, with many attending every stop, which she described as deeply moving.
The event design integrated key educational themes such as self-awareness, environmental awareness, media literacy, disaster resilience, and local identity into interactive stations. The 'Giant New Taipei Puzzle' was especially popular, helping children learn about their hometown through play and fostering local pride and curiosity.
On childcare policy, Su, a mother of two, shared her understanding of the challenges parents face balancing work and parenting. She introduced her 'Three Major Family Care Proposals': promoting night-time childcare services, expanding temporary childcare capacity, and establishing a real-time temporary childcare search platform to support shift workers, night-shift employees, and those requiring overtime.
Su stressed that, if elected mayor, she would re-examine urban development through a '95cm perspective'—the eye level of a young child—to create public spaces and a family-friendly environment tailored to children's needs. Her goal is to reduce parental burdens and make New Taipei the most secure and desirable city for families to raise children and build their lives.
